The BFC Gas and Electric facility extracts gas from non-recyclables and then burns the gas to generate electricity (green energy). By utilizing materials that would otherwise be sent to a landfill or present other disposal problems, the burning process results in a 98% volume reduction.

The plant provides benefits for the community by using clean industrial materials as fuel, preventing those materials from being landfilled.

• BFC Gas uses approximately 150 tons of material each day
• 1 ton of fuel is used for every megawatt of electricity produced
• Each fuel bin holds 2-1/2 days of processed fuel
• Only 6 tons of ash is produced for every 120 tons of material processed (95% reduction)
• 11,000 cubic feet of fuel reduces to 200 cubic feet of ash (98% reduction)
• Ash residues are recycled in a composting mixture
